Meherabode Talks

Tom and Dorothy Hopkinson

Lady Dorothy Hopkinson, since childhood was always drawn to religion and philosophy.  She first contacted Meher Baba though a series of dreams in 1942.  Dorothy then wrote to India and kept in touch with Baba and the Mandali through letters.  Sir Thomas Hopkinson, was knighted for his distinguished work in the field of journalism.  He edited and guided the leading British magazine Picture Post through ten years of great popularity and influence.  It was the first British magazine to emphasize the lives of ordinary people rather than the aristocracy.  In Johannesburg, South Africa, where Tom and Dorothy lived for nine years, he edited Drum, a magazine for Africans with African staff.  Tom continued to promote the training of black African journalists in his role as regional director of the International Press Institute in Nairobi, Kenya.  He also established at Cardiff the first training center for journalism at any British university.  Tom and Dorothy met Meher Baba in England in 1952 and 1956.  Together they wrote the very popular biography of Meher Baba, MUCH SILENCE.
